Trans Pride Party at Sussex 

On Thursday 16 July, our Trans and Non-Binary Staff Network and the LGBTQ+ Staff Network are jointly holding a Trans Pride Party from 12–2pm. Allies are welcome to join us at the Meeting House for food, live music, an artistic workshop, on a drop-in, drop-out basis.

Rach and Jacqueline, chairs of the Trans and Nonbinary Staff Network, would like to add the following: "We'd love to see you! In these politically charged times, even small acts of allyship like coming to a party can help. If you can't make it, but are open to other ways you can make a difference, why not consider making a small one-off or monthly ? And there's always the much bigger Trans Pride celebration happening on Saturday 18 July in Valley Gardens and Kemptown — most of which is free of charge!" 

Trans Pride Brighton and Hove 18 July 

 is the first and largest trans pride event outside America. It is organised by a grassroots community-led charity run by a team of trans and cis volunteers. This year, Trans Pride Brighton and Hove will take place on 18 July: there will be a protest march through Brighton in addition to a range of events.

The trans flag will fly over Sussex House from 16-20 July in celebration of Trans Pride. 

International Non-Binary People’s Day 

International Non-Binary People’s Day is held on 14 July each year, half-way between International Women’s Day and International Men’s Day. It was , a non-binary person from Canada.  

The non-binary flag will be flown from Sussex House from 10-15 July to mark the day. 

Staff networks 

• Our Trans and Non-binary Staff Network at Sussex is a confidential and fully inclusive group open to all Sussex staff who identify as trans and/or non-binary. You can join the confidential mailing list by contacting transnonbinarystaff@sussex.ac.uk. The mailing list is monitored and accessed solely by the Chair of the Trans and Non-binary Staff Network. 

• Staff members who identify as LGBTQ+ can join our LGBTQ+ Staff Network by contacting lgbt-staff@sussex.ac.uk.  The LGBTQ+ Staff Network arranges events and activities through the year, and provides an informal network of LGBTQ+ staff. Many of their events are open to all staff, and some events are also open to students. To find out more, see the Staff Networks page. 

Student societies 

• Students who identify as trans and/or non-binary, or who are intersex, can contact the Students’ Union Trans and Non-binary Group by emailing transnonbinary@sussexstudent.com. They can also get involved with Transcend, a SU-affiliated Campaign and Network aimed at uplifting the lives of trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming students at the ¹ú²úÄÚÉä and beyond: transcend.sussex@sussexstudent.com

Trans and Non-Binary e-learning 

Staff may wish to explore relevant e-learnings around Trans Pride. In addition to the mandatory  e-learning, the university also provides courses in  and a guide for managers on .
