On this module you’ll examine resistance and social justice from a global outlook.

You’ll explore historical and cultural cases where ideas and practices adopted in Europe and around the world have challenged:

  • ideologies
  • political powers
  • patriarchal society
  • racism
  • religious intolerance
  • abuse of human rights
  • globalisation.

In all these cases, acts of resistance have often led to social, political and cultural revolution.

Through a multidisciplinary approach, you’ll engage with historical, artistic, literary and political issues in the works you study to form an intercultural perspective.

Module learning outcomes

  • Students will critically analyse key resistance moments and / or themes in world history and society from an intercultural and multidisciplinary perspective.
  • Students will effectively communicate analysis and arguments in relation to key revolutionary moments in history and present them in written form.
  • Students will evidence critical awareness of the philosophical, psychological, moral, social, cultural, political or other issues arising from the topics studied.
  • Students will Independently research and analyse a selected contemporary case-study of resistance or revolution.
