Future Plans

(April 2026)

Alongside ongoing operational and service management tasks, current areas of focus for the ITS Research team include:

• Improvements to online service information and documentation
• Upgrading the software used to perform back-ups of research data holdings
• Progress towards modernisation and refresh of research data storage services via an interim project
• Development of business processes and guidance for recovery of directly allocated costs for research IT infrastructure and specialist support
• Integrating new HPC compute nodes that have been purchased by projects or funded from external awards

Looking further ahead in 2026, we will be collaborating with academic colleagues to design and implement a research application hosting service, also based on our new OpenStack environment.

Following the successful launch of the new Artemis HPC service in December, the ITS Research team are currently focussed on the following immediate priorities:

• Improvements to online service information and documentation
• Development of an ongoing programme of training and support events 
• Progress towards modernisation and refresh of research data storage services
• Development of a transparent and funder-compliant model for directly allocated costs for research IT infrastructure
• Strengthening engagement and communication with the research community

Looking further ahead in 2025, we will be collaborating with academic colleagues to design and implement a research application hosting service, also based on our new OpenStack environment.
