Autumn teaching
On this module, you’ll look at the historical relationship between equity and areas of common law as well as equity’s continuing relevance.
We’ll look at:
- how trusts are used for holding property, including the formation of express and implied trusts
- how to use rules from case law and statutory provisions to solve example problems
- the powers and duties of trustees in relation to trust property.
You’ll reflect on the role of legal principles and judicial discretion in the evolution of equitable doctrines. You’ll also explore how these interact with underlying notions of fairness.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 20 hours of contact time and about 130 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
