Spring teaching

This module introduces applications from several broad problem domains. These include healthcare, environmental contexts and societal contexts. In these areas, artificial intelligence methods have been and can be applied.

We will discuss:

  • how these tools can be used

  • what insights and benefits they can offer

  • the challenges and pitfalls that appear when working with real data

  • how to communicate results to users.

We will also look at the wider implications of applying AI in these settings. This includes:

  • ethical issues linked to collecting and using data

  • factors that support the responsible deployment of AI.

Guest lecturers from across the university and industry will share a range of opinions.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 33 hours of contact time and about 117 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology.
